Nobody Wins When The Family Feuds
Mike D, Overdue Bills Lead Writer
Jay-Z, the greatest MC to ever grace a microphone, famously said on 4:44, “Nobody wins when the family feuds.” If I was Sean McDermott, I’d have the song “Family Feud” blasting in the facilities- hell I’d have Steve Harvey’s Family Feud playing on all the monitors. This is not the year for infighting. This is the best player-coach combination that we've had since the Kelly-Levy era. Squandering this opportunity to trivial things like Twitter should be a crime against humanity. And if you aren’t familiar with this story, let me take you back to the beginning.
On May 13th, Cole Beasley became the face of the anti-vaxxers movement. See the image below.
There was constant back and forth between him and fans. Some people questioned his intelligence, while others went as far as to suggest he had CTE. Eventually, Beasley set his sights on a bigger target by calling out the NFL Player’s Association.
And he continues...
I’m not writing this article to persuade anyone to get vaccinated. I am solely here to talk about “the culture.” For years, the Bills were applauded for the culture that McDermott created. But now, it will be tested. A veteran on offense had a public disagreement with not only a defensive veteran, but our most tenured player.
But the Bills’ vaccination debates don't stop here. Back in April, Jordan Poyer’s wife, Rachel Bush, suggested that she would try to "force a trade" if the Bills mandated fans to be vaccinated to attend home games. (Update: they are not mandating fans be vaccinated for home games). But the biggest splash came from the Bills' most important player. While on a podcast show with Kyle Brandt, Josh Allen stated:
“I think everybody should have that choice to do it or not to do it,” Allen continued. “You get in this tricky situation now where if you do mandate that, that’s kind of going against what our constitution says and the freedom to kind of express yourself one way or the other. I think we’re in a time where that’s getting a lot harder to do. Everybody should have that choice.” (Fierro,2021).
Of course, this caught a lot of traction and was the top story for that day. I must state, for a normally quiet team, this has been an extremely noisy off-season.
I'm positive Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane, and the entire Bills' PR staff are keeping a close eye on the situation. For a team that was in the AFC Championship last year with hopes to win this year, we need ALL 53 men moving in the same direction. As of now, it seems the players are more focused on breaking down Covid-19 than coverages. In closing, Jay-Z continued the verse with “But my stash can't fit into Steve Harvey's suit, I'm clear why I'm here, how about you?” This is the question for the 2021 Buffalo Bills. Why are you here? Is it to get more cash to stuff into your bank account? Or is it to win it all? Because if it’s not to bring a championship to the greatest city with the greatest fans, please do us a favor and go away.
Peace. ✌🏽
