We’re BYKE! Week 12 preview of the Buffalo Bills vs Los Angeles Chargers matchup (video below).
After a much needed bye week, the Bills are back and ready for the remainder of the season. With injuries to key players (ie Matt Milano) and multiple players on the Covid-19 list, the Bills needed a bye week more than any other Bills team in recent history. Taking this week to get healthy, rest their bodies, and hone in on the finer details, the Bills will try to “defend their dirt” this Sunday @ 1:00PM against the (3-7) Los Angeles Chargers. Without wasting anymore time, let’s get into the game.
Offense
Better QB: Allen- This is a great feeling. Normally, when the young hot shot rookie QB comes to town, we would wish that he was our guy. Now, with Justin Herbert coming to town, I am looking forward to seeing how he looks, not dreading it. Because I do believe he will have a good game, but Josh will have a better one. And please do not look at this as a sign of disrespect to Herbert. Truth be told, there is only one QB in the league that I EXPECT to out class Josh Allen, and his name is Patrick Lavon Mahomes II. Herbert is good, but not that good.
Better Backfield: Chargers- Not hard to be better than this backfield right now. Hopefully Motor and Moss will prove me wrong this game.
Better Receivers: Chargers- This was a tough one for me. If we are only talking WR’s, then the duo of Diggs and Beasley is better than Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. But taking TE’s into account, Hunter Henry is far better than any of our number three options. The absence of John Brown will be a big one!
Defense
Unlike the offense, I won’t compare position groups, but rather stats that matter:
Sacks: Bills- Surprised? I was too. If you’re like me, you’ve complained about the line not “getting” home on blitzes. Well, that narrative may have to change. The Bills are now in the Top 10 with 27 sacks.
Turnovers: Bills- This should not be surprising. The Bills have been taking the Ball away all year, They are 3rd in the league with 16 takeaways (7int & 9 fum). The Chargers have only forced 8 turnovers this year (4int and 4fum). The Bills will attempt to win the turnover battle, so anticipate pressure early and often.
Points Per Game: Bills- Very close, but slight edge to the Bills. They allow 26.5 points per game, while the Chargers allow 27.2. With defenses like this, this may be a “last team with the ball wins” type of game.
Coaching
Better staff: Bills- I love Anthony Lynn, and he absolutely deserves to be a coach in this league. But the combination of McDermott, Daboll and Fraizer is hard to beat.
Overall
Better Team: Bills- No surprise here. I chose the Bills for all but two categories for a reason. One team is 7-3 and the other is 3-7 for a reason. So yes, the Bills is the better team coming into the game, and I expect them to be the better team during the game. I expect the bills to improve to 8-3 Sunday, with a fairly easy victory of 26-19 Bills.
Everybody Eats B!
Spread: Bills (-5)- I think the Bills easily cover this spread, so I have no problem giving up 5 points.
Over/Under: Under- With the bye week, the Bills defense will be ready to play. But the loss of John Brown has me hesitant to project a big day on offense. So an over/under of 53 points is to high for my liking.
